Can I use a low temp glue gun for styrene?

For christmas one of the things I got was a Walthers “River Road Mercantile” which is made of styrene parts and I was wondering if it is safe to use a low temp glue gun on this. The temp on the glue gun’s temp is low enogh that it can be used on foam.

thanks

In a word, yes.

JW is right, but why? Liquid plastic cement applied with a pin, tooth pick or tiny brush sure seems to work better for me.

You can, but I wouldn’t. The low temp glue is not made for non-porus surfaces like plastic. Why not get a good plastic welder, like TENEX, Testor’s or any adhesive made for styrene.

I believe I remember someone using one to put together the New River Mining Company kit in less than a day. I’d have to go back through that lengthy thread to find out who. I am wondering how it has held up.

I have structures that I put together that way, but it took a pretty large bead on the joints to do it. The oldest one is 12 years old and is still in one piece.

Thanks evryone![8D]
