Can motor works great!

I finally replaced my Sagami 16x30 can motor with a NWSL 16x30 along with a 16mm flywheel, just to help get rid of some of the studdering this engine occasionally had. I glued the motor to the frame with some clear bathroom silicone and voila! It runs better than it did before! I am starting to wonder now if there wasn’t something wrong with that motor before the brush wire broke. Now it seems to have a ton of torque and can pull just about anything I can throw at it. Anyways, the engine, which an an LMB NYC H-10, runs awesome.

I also continued some work on my kitbashed P&LE H9 or H10 Mikado. I’m using a Mantua mikado as a starting point. I’ll try to include some pictures when I get a chance.

It’s amazing what a new motor can often do. The NWSL motor is also a Sagami, but I think Sagami upgraded the power of their motors at some point (I once worked on an FP45 that my uncle put an old Sagami in. It was smooth, but the motor seemed a little weak).

Hasn’t Sagami gone out of business? I thought I read here a few months ago that they had. If NWSL still has Sagami motors in stock they must have purchased quite a few when the company was still in business.

They went out of business I think a few years ago (Mr. Sagami retired from what I heard). Any motors that are left are whatever NWSL still has. NWSL is starting to release new motors to replace the Sagamis.

I had actually gotten this motor on e-bay, so it could easily be a few years old.

I have e-mailed an individual over at NWSL and they do have some direct replacement motors for the Sagami motors now. Ive considered getting one of those 20x32 motors that are actually 18mm on the flat side. I have about 9 Mantua steamers and at least 5 of them have motor problems and that might be a good replacement for those. I also have a Penn Line H9 Consolidation that badly needs a new motor.
