On the bottom of the engine is RSO Made in Yugoslavia.I bought in the 70’s or 80’s and don’t have the box anymore. It still runs great though.
It’s an IHC engine.
It was made by Mehano (at that time Mehanotehnica) for either AHM or Life-Like. IHC didn’t exist until the late 80s, and if it was IHC, it would simply say “MADE IN SLOVENIA”, and nothing else. Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia until the late 80s or early 90s.
AHM imported a Heavy USRA 4-6-2 that was made by Mehano in Yugoslavia–the locomotive was available clear up until AHM and Rivarossi went under, a couple of years ago. I never had one, but several friends did, and said that the locomotive was a nice runner, good hauler, and had pretty good detail. Perhaps that’s your locomotive. Unfortunately, since Rivarossi went under, there don’t seem to be any HO USRA Heavy Pacifics that I can think of on the RTR market, unless you want to look for hard-to-find brass. One of the best of the older brass was the Akane model–powerful, smooth running and extremely well detailed for its time–but rare as hen’s teeth, these days. So if you’ve got the old Rivarossi/Mehano USRA Heavy Pacific, hang on to it–that wheel arrangement is hard to come by, at least in HO.

Thanks for the replys.Now I know.Its a AHM 4-6-2 Heavy Pacific.
I think that what used to be AHM is now IHC, because their mailing address is the same.
Only the name has been changed to protect the guilty…
