Can this be done and, if so, where to get info.?

Hello, it’s me again! (This may be a question for the Modeler’s forum but I’ll toss it out anyway)

What I would like to do, with traditional O27 Lionel, is to accompli***he following and I really need a source (Book or Web Site) for information:

  1. Set up one track with two trains

  2. Have 3 sections, each with a Signal

  3. Have one train wait at a “red” light until the first train clears the section ahead, turn the light “green” and allow this second train to enter the section vacated while the first train continues on.

NOW, here is the tricky part…I would like this to be done automatically by just turning on the power. (Older ZW bullet transformer)

AM I DREAMING?

(Side note–By now, you know that I was an HO scale fanatic. During that former life, my layouts had many controls for multiple blocks and individual cab control operations. Now that I am into my third childhood, and am ‘playing’ with my trains, I am looking for simplicity)

Again. many thanks for reading -and info.

It can be done. See www.Three-Rail.com

This is also covered in Peter Riddle’s Wiring Your Lionle Layout volume2.

Boy! You’re fast… Many thanks.

I believe when you operate this way you lock your engine in forward. That way when power is turned on and off in each block the engine starts up in forward. If you have done this in HO the wiring and relays should be similiar, maybe even easier.
