In the winter, yes. In the summer, no. Its odd timing but I think I get more done on my layout in the summer than in the winter. This time of year is much better for me to work on my mowers and pickups but the layout keeps calling me. Adding in my K-line 42" switches to the lower yard then the upper one. Removing the “S” curve. Re-alligning the lower yard tracks. All when I really should have done this over the winter time.
As long as you have something new to work on the layout or maybe some new rolling stock or locomotive it does not get boring. If you get into the same routine day after day it could get boring.
I have been working on a log dump area on the layout for the last week or so. A logging train will back over a remote piece of track and the log cars will dump their logs down a hill side into the lumber mill area. This area should be a hit with the grandsons, it will have the 464 lumber mill and the 24115 log loader.
Surprisingly, for ME, I found that it was the HO scale trains that I got Bored with. I like, no LOVE the Mass of the O Gauge trains, HO just doesn’t have it, and N scale, don’t sneeze facing the layout, Nuff said. I also enjoy the “Hunt” for those pieces that I “Need” for my collection, now if the economy would just help me out a bit, I have seen a few of those pieces, for decent prices. But a Wife, Kids and a Mortgage, I guess should come first( at least that is what the Wife has been telling me [swg]).

Sure, anyone can get bored with anything. That’s why it’s best to have multiple hobbies.
Its just so addicting. Having one of each thing in the book. I know there about 2000+ postwar item numbers. I probably have about 250 of them. I have a long ways to go and another 50 so years to do it in. For my age, I never get bored of my trains. I did landscaping for 14 years when I was younger to afford these postwar trains. Maybe now a days buying 5 or 6 things a year is good enough. There are just so many possibilities and things to do with trains. Its endless. But, I never get bored of them and I do not have any other hobbies. I guess I picked the right one, cause it keeps me busy and takes my money. Thanks.
There are so many good buys currently on the Bay that it is difficult to not push the buy button. I have purchased 3 items this week that I have wanted but wasn’t interested due to the pricing last year, but at 50 to 60 percent off previous pricing, to good not to not buy.
I recently started “thinning the herd”- sold a Lionel CNJ SD-40 on ebay and gave a friend a sweet deal on an Atlas GP-15 w/ TMCC, five freight cars, CW-80 transformer, and a loop of 027 track. If it wasn’t for this activity, I wouldn’t even have thought about my collection- after pursuing most of the engines and cars I wanted, for some reason I just lost interest. I’m even more motivated to go through my collection and sell off what I don’t want, since I got back into my '72 Firebird and need funds to build another motor for it.
The upside to selling some trains is that it also brings you back into the hobby-you realize you don’t need every single type of freight car or engine to enjoy it. I’m also thinking about ripping up the old layout and making some much needed revisions.
