Can you tell me how to get to....

Sesame Street?

After some major changes in my life recently, I’ve strted getting quite nostalgic. Due to health problems I’ve moved my grandmother in with us and it’s bringing back memories of growing up. Things we used to cook, places we went and tv shows we used to watch. TV Land keeps her occupied during the day. Things we used to watch were “All in the Family” “Sanford and Son” “Andy griffth” etc etc

This post isn’t about nostalgia per se, but about modeling places you remember that aren’t real places. I know it’s not a totally new idea, IIRC Armstrong modeled the “Nighthawks” diner scene and recently someone on the fourm built MRR’s version of “Sanford and Son” which didn’t look at all like the set for th show.

So has anyone else done something like this? Anyone model “Central Perk”, the yelow brick road, or “The Ponderosa”?

As for me, the section of my layout that I’m currently working on doesn’t have room for any of the scenes I’d like to build but, as the main line exteneds there will be some towns where I can fit in dioramas of the following: Sesame street, Archie Bunkers house, and even “Mr. Rodgers” neighborhood. Maybe even put them all in one town.

Dunno if this helps but Mr. Rodger’s neigborhood’s opening scene was shot with models

This old car on my layout has quite a story to tell:

This is one I remember, but from “the future:”

And, I’ve never actually taken a walk down Lonely Street…

I’ve got Arnold’s restaurant from Happy Days, Buford T Justice chasing the Bandit from the movie Smokey and the Bandit as well as the drag race scene with Milners 32 and the black 55 Chevy at the end of American Graffitti. I’ve got a few others planned as well.

I don’t have my railroad built yet, i am still in the planning stages. My plans are to model a fictional rail service between the fictional cities of Keystone City and Central City (of DC Comics fame).

Mayberry had a train station. It was located on a branch of the Southern Railway.

Teen Syeam, yep, that’s kinda part of what inspired this line of thinking. BTW what’s the tractor man from?

TA, got pics?

Mayberry is on the southern huh? Little out of my area but…

Come to think of it, one could probably build an entire layout set in fictional towns

Model Railroader did a project layout set in Rock Ridge, the town in “Blazing Saddles”.
