I thought I would start this to hear the stories and significant historical value of the Canada Southern and to know why it was abandoned and was never revived at least yet.
Such a damn shame that CN and CP are tearing it up!!! [:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]
Conrail never should have sold it to them.Too bad there was no RailAmerica or other short line conglomerate at the time. I have a theory as to why it’s been abandoned. CN and CP bought it to eliminate the competition, by any means.
I wonder when they will wise up and realize the NS and CSX might have to use and then sell them the property and the highest price possible. Now that’s what I would do if I were CN or CP. Personally, I don’t see much competition from it being in existance. If it was an open access line, CN and CP could use it to move a few freight between Buffalo and South Western Ontario. VIA might even start up passenger service between Windsor and Fort Erie. Point being, the CASO isn’t really a competition point anymore since CN eliminated the Cayuga Sub and routed everything to the conjested Dundas Sub.
