Canadian Cylindrical Hoppers; what is most routine???

I want to buy six or seven cylindrial hoppers for my rolling stock and i would like to know from those of you who live in areas where cylindricals are seen often, what roadnames are most common? The older blue Alberta Heritages, the red Canada, the red/orange Government de Canada, or Saskatchewan Grain, or the Potacan or Potash of Saskatchewan. Thanks for your imput! Bennett

I live in Ontario & have seen all of the above. As well as CPR, SOO, CN, BNSF, & a whole bunch more

Gordon

I see alot of Potash, the CNWX cars, and of course lots of CN, i don’t live in Canda but i do live on a CN mainline through michigan

I agree with Gordon. I’m in Ontario too. I’ve seen them all at one time or another, though the most common is just CN with others mixed in.

Trevor, depends on which railroad you watch [:D]

I’m usually railfaning the CPR

Gordon

I agree that there is a good mix, but I would say the red CANADA grain cars. Those are the cars that I bought for my layout.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and everyday on the way to work I drive by Walker yards, which is CN’s 2nd largest yard in Canada.

Thanks all! Gordon, im modeling the CPR. I still havent decided what province though! Maybe it’ll get down to wich province’s team I like best! hmmmmm…Leafs or Flames…The Habs are doin good so far and Flames are holding on to the Duckies, though im of course rooting for the Ducks and Sharks. ANyway, hope i dont annoy any of u, goin off topic and all, well thanks again, Bennett

In my neck of the woods, the Canadian Cylindricals I see most often are the black CP Rail ones, FWIW.

I live close to CN’s and CP’s main line through Southern Ontario and I see all of the ones described. The Intermountain versions are very nice but very delicate if those are the ones your looking at.

As noted, it depends upon where you live, and what industries are served by the hoppers. We have potash mines in our province, and their product is brought here in CN cars to be unloaded at a ship loading facility. Other cars bring in plastic pellets, feed, etc. Most are CN or private names. I see one or more with the “census 2000” markings quite often.
