Canadian government issues tank car directives
The NTSB investigates and recommends. The FRA, the Federal Railway Administration regulates.
The Canadian Government has spoken. It will be interesting to see if the NTSB follows suit.
It will be interesting to see the development of the task force and the structure of the ERAP’s which follow. Since the railways profit from the movement of these dangerous goods through my backyard, they and the cargo interest should be paying the full cost of emergency response. In Durham Region, east of Toronto, where I live, there are NO foam trucks, but every CN and CP oil train headed to eastern Canada goes through here.
