Good news. The trip on VIA between Halifax and Montreal is well worth taking.

The track will be a valuable asset in the decades to come, as we are forced to deal with climate change factors. Already arctic ice and permafrost are melting in Canada’s north, in Alaska and in Siberia and releasing methane. Travel by rail will be a pleasureable way to help reduce this danger.

It is also good to know that we can avoid the fast and undisciplined drivers on the highways of New Brunswick without having to fly over them.

How do you spell “politics”? P-O-L-I-T-I-C-S? The next Federal election is scheduled for 2015.
In response to Mr. Narita, there isn’t the same potential for vote gains on the Gaspe Peninsula.

It would have been nice if there had been funding to restore the line to the Gaspe peninsula.

Does this mean that after the Canadian elections, that the lines are likely not to receive further subsidy?

One time funding in New Brunswick and in Northern Ontario points to Canadian Federal election in February

Mr. George, yes this is indeed good news; however in an American election year you mentioned climate change. Please be prepared for negative comments about your climate change post. I live in the north a see it every day, but be prepared for American ignorance of the facts.

You hit the nail right on the head, Terry!

How can you tell there’s going to be an election within a year?

How can you tell there’s going to be an election within a year?

Great news! It would have been sad to have this last passenger rail link to the Maritimes lost after the demise of the Atlantic.

Mr Garon; If memory serves the next Canadian Election is set for Oct 15, 2015.

There must be an election every five years at least, or one can be called whenever the gov’t decides to have one, or if a minority gov’t is defeated on a money bill.

From Guelph reminds Barry George that for a Canadian to drive to New Brunswick, one must drive through Quebec which has the worst drivers in Canada. The only way to the Maritimes is taking the train and rent a car when you get there. ??
