Canadian Pacific decals

Hi everyone!

I just purchased 2 locomotives on eBay which I want to repaint in the late 50’s Canadian Pacific maroon and grey scheme. One is an RS3 and the other is an FP7 (both Atlas/Kato I believe).

Does anyone know who makes appropriate decals for these two projects? I have seen listings for CP cab units - is that what I want for the FP7?[D)]

So far I have drawn a blank on the RS3.

I would like to use the CP script lettering even though I know it is too early for the era. I just like the looks of it, but I would be quite happy with block lettering if that is my only choice. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Black Cat decals are the finest ones…they come with different script lengths.

Microscale is another option: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=87-92&Category_Code=CP&Product_Count=5 You can order direct from them.

I’d try Microscale first, I ordered some black cat decals for a hopper project and by the time they arrived, I was modeling in a different scale!

Google TMR Distributing, they aren’t that far from you. Terry is the decal king in Ontario and has or can get just about anything.

How did you order them?

If you order directly, you get them right away! Be sure to either call the owner or email him.

As well, he deals with other decal bits beyond what is listed on his website. For example, he will sell you “CANADIAN PACIFIC” for passenger cars for 2 fer-a-buck. Much cheaper than buying the entire decal set per passenger car. Again, this will only happen if you either call or email him with you intentions.

P.S. Microscale actually makes Black Cat decals for him. So the quality is of the highest quality.

Thanks for the link to Microscale.

I noted that they have two different sets of decals - one for ‘cab’ units and one for ‘hood’ units. Can anyone explain the difference between ‘cab’ and ‘hood’? Which set would I use for the RS3 and which set for the FP7?[D)]

Thanks

Dave

“Hood” units have hoods narrower than the cab (like a geep or your RS-3) while “cab” units have full-width carbodies, like your FP7.

Oh God…

Hood units have Tuscan “Canadian Pacific”

Cab units have Imitation Gold “Canadian Pacific”

I just figured that out before your post! I have been looking at these things for years and never put 2 and 2 together. Duh.

Dave

Hmmm. I never noticed that before. Even the FA/FB-2s in their original paint had yellow lettering on a grey background.

There were some hood units (switchers) with yellow lettering, but that was on a maroon background.

No…my response was to the post above mine where he didnt offer you the answer you needed. Sometimes people on these forums post about things they dont know about…confusing the member looking for specific information.

Also, you need NOT read beyond the words posted on these forums. Reading beyond the words results in misunderstandings and should be avoided at all costs. No…I was not upset.

You’re correct, David, but that was because I hadn’t noticed the difference in the lettering colours. [:$]

Most diesel decal sets that are available for hood and cab diesels differentiate between the two because they’re not always interchangeable (as in this case, because of the lettering colours, but in some cases because of differences in heralds, striping, or lettering sizes).

I did a couple dozen CPR diesels (hoods and cabs) using SMP Accucals (which were the ones with which I was most familiar) and each of their sets included material for both types and for particular manufacturers’ (EMD, MLW, Baldwin, etc.) locos. It was up to the modeller to pick the correct options. I was working from photos, so simply matched them for the models. Because I don’t model the CPR, I never noticed the difference in the lettering colours, although, since it matched the photos, I did get it right. [(-D]
