Canadian Pacific GE 4400 AC

Hi,

I’m a railfan from Germany and would like to at what time the first GE 4400 AC appeared on the scene at CP. Is it likely, that GE’s would be coupled together with SD 40-2s?

Thanks for your answers.

BernieLo

The first CPR AC4400CW’s were delivered in 1995. I have seen them run with SD40-2’s but this is not common. They normally run with themselves and/or CPR’s SD90/43MAC’s and ES44AC’s.

Thanks for your answer, this will help me for a modelling project. I have a Athearn SD 40-2 (dummy) that I want to repaint and detail for CP and couple with the GE.

Remember that you can also run Soo Line SD40-2’s with that AC4400CW. I saw just such a combination in 2004 in the Thompson River canyon on a CPR westbound, so it does happen.

So, was SOO LINE bought by CP? Would you see CP reporting marks on SOO LINE power like CSXT on old B&O and C&O stuff?

The Soo Line has been a CPR subsidiary for many many years. Soo owned cars bear Soo marks.

Soo Line was partly owned by CPR for many years until CP bought out the remaining portion.

Regarding reporting marks, the opposite is actually true…you can see SOO reporting marks on some cars bearing the latest CPR name & beaver logo.

I’ve seen SOO SD60’s running with the AC4400’s as well as CPR’s SD40-2s running along the Belleville Sub.

The only units I haven’t seen running with the AC’s is 4 axle units but I’m sure they have.

Hi BernieLo,

I have seen a GE 4400 in CP coulours coupled with an SD60 in SOO colours either in red and white or all red running through Guelph Junction a fair amount. The strangest thing was last year in the spring when they used a CP 4400, SOO SD60 and a BNSF SD40-2 for switching in Cambridge. I asked the fellow on the ground if they had enough power to get the job done. He just nodded and smiled.

Here are a couple of sites if you are interested where you can find out more info on the CP:

Hope this is of help

[bow] Folks,

What’s about the AC6000 CP/Beaver Logo ?

BLI did one those AC6000, but i found nothing at all concerned those AC6000 CP ?

the only pics i found are UP & CSX, are the 6000 CP/Beaver derated at 4000HP ?
thanks in advance for infos.

Cheers,

CP does not own any AC6000CW’s. The only owners of AC6000’s are UP, CSX, and BHP Ore Mining (in Australia).

Thats all I ever see as well, mind you I only live a 1/2 hour from Gordon. Every once in awhile I see some CEFX SD90MAC’s, CP leases them.

Here in Montreal, we see many older SD-40-2 lashed-up with big GE units. The yards are where you still can see low nose GP-9’s. Some SOO line SD’s are not uncommon.
