Canadian Pacific Hi-Cube boxcars

Recently I’ve seen a few of these kicking around a yard in Alexandria VA:

Their color really stands out in winter and I’d like to have such a car. No one makes one, of course, I’m willing to bridge the gap using either Exactrail’s Hy-Cube or Walther’s newsprint boxcars. This means I have to miss out on that interesting grid on the outside, which bugs me more than the wrong length. My ORER says they’re 60’ whereas my two possible models are 50’. Now my question is, does anyone make decals for these? None of the CP decals I’ve ever seen were right and Microscale doesn’t seem to make them either.

Here’s one that is close but not quite. I have seen a single door one but I can’t remember if it had the grid or was like this one.

Its close enough though. Guess I’ll have to keep my eyes out at every show I go to from now on.

Do yourself a favour and stay away from those LBF cars, they are junk. If your looking for something along that line then check out the Athearn RTR versions and their Genesis versions of the 60’ Gunderson boxcars. They are well worth the money. I’ve got a bunch of the CP ones and they look great.

The LBF car is a model of an NSC car. The Athearn car is a model of a Gunderson car.

The LBF cars are also out of production (the company no longer exists). If you can find some in stock somewhere, good. They’re not the highest quality compared to other offerings, but no one else has a model of this particular type of car, so if you can find some, and get them to work (might have to do some fine-tuning and replaced trucks and couplers) you’re golden.

The LBF model of the 60’ double-door NSC car is accurate for that series of CP cars.

The Athearn car is nice, but as noted not the correct prototype for the CP cars.
