Canadian Pacific Holiday Train US Version

Greetings,

The Canadian Pacific is again sponsoring the “Holiday Train”. There are actually two trains, one in the US and a second in Canada. Both of these trains are decorated with thousands of lights on the locomotive and cars. It is quite a sight to see going down the tracks. Also the train is used to collect food for local food pantries. The train only runs at night, otherwise it would look pretty boring. Below is a link to the entire United States Schedule. The train has entertainers on board that provide a program for about a half an hour at each scheduled stop.

It will be in the Southeast Wisconsin area on Thursday Dec 9th at Sturtevant Depot in Sturtevant, WI and Friday Dec 10th I would assume in the area of the Brookfield Depot in Brookfield, WI.

It seems like nothing intresting comes through New Jersey[:(].

Greetings,

Time is drawing near for the Canadian Pacific Holiday Trains to begin running in the United States and Canada again. The CP Holiday Trains are neat to see and also provide a great service by collecting food for local food pantries. Below are links to the schedules for the THREE CP Holiday Trains.

CP Holiday Train - Northeast US Version

CP Holiday Train - Midwest US Version

CP Holiday Train - Canadian Version

All three trains have entertainers on board that give 20-30 minute concerts at the town stops. Hopefully this year when the train comes through Wisconsin it won’t be raining/sleeting like it was last year.

It will be in Scranton, PA. Thats close enough.

Not only is the Holiday Train spectacular to see (Keith’s photo does it justice but does not show the beautiful old CP passenger cars at the end of the train) but the quality of the entertainment was quite good.

Heads Up,

The CP Holiday is rolling. According to the schedule, the Northeast Version of the train should have completed its tour. I would assume that it is on its way to Chicago, so watch the rails for the train to heading west.

On Thursday Dec 9th the Holiday Train begins its Midwest Swing.

If any easterners got any pictures, feel free to post them.

Keith, can I ask, how’d you get such a good photo of it? Open shutter for quite a while? I’d like to experiment with it, but I doubt any of my pictures will come out good. BTW, do you know what engine number the Midwest train will be using?

Noah

Noah,

I just got lucky. That shot was one of the first I took with my digital camera in 2001. That picture was taken with me holding the camera. The camera did the rest. Now I have a different digital camera so it will be interesting to see what happens. I hope to see the train in Brookfield, WI this Friday.

As for the CP Holiday Train consist, I have seen that #9772 AC4400 is the locomotive with 6 boxcars, 1 container flat, 1 stage car and three business cars.

Hopefully both yours and my pictures will turn out this year, if the weather cooperates.

Thanks for talking about the CP Holiday train. The train should be on time. I hope all get out and see it. Kaith if you want to get a day picture. on Dec 10. go down to the dept. in Milwaukee on track 6. The train will be moving out at about 4-4:30 to make Brookfield at 5pm time. Please to all enjoy the train but don’t get on or next to the track. Security will be around. So if the train is moving don’t get next to the track. More infor can be found a WWW.cpr.ca then to holiday train. If I hear more on the train t will post it. I work for CP track dept. in Milwaukee. Enjoy the train it is not all about the lights. It is about the FOOD PANTRY !!! ENJOY…

Greetings,

Here are some shots from the US Version of the CP Holiday train as it stopped in Brookfield, WI on Dec 10th. There were several hundred people out to see the train at Fox Brook Park despite steady rain/drizzle. Congratulations to CP for running the train and it appeared alot of food was collected for the local food pantry.

CP #9772 led the train. The CP even held up two other trains while the Christmas Train sat at Brookfield.

Here is most of the train while at Brookfield, WI just west of Milwaukee, WI

Here is the #9772 just before departing.

I’ve also got a few to share from later on in the trains run, when it got to Portage WI. My photograhpy was helped by the fact that the engine was parked with a near by street light aimed right at it. So here are my two pictures of the engine. This was the first time for time-exposure photography for me, so it worked out very well. It was also nice that the rain stopped right as I got there.

Noah

Noah,

Again nice shots. Yes having that street there really helped. Unfortunately the stop in Brookfield was in a city park. So there was very little light other than the train.

It is great to see that a railroad does such a public service for towns along their lines. My hat is off to Bob Ritchie and the rest of the great people with CP for doing this great public service. I think that CSXor NS does a similar thing through an improvished area of Kentuckey and Tennessee.
