CP Rail has painted a couple of SD 70ACU locomotives in the heritage burgundy and grey scheme. Apparently more to follow. Both block lettering and script. Interesting I really like the scheme on these locomotives.

They look great! I’ll have to keep an eye out in case they ever come down to “the states”; I drive along CP’s (ex-Milwaukee Road) Twin Cities - Chicago mainline going to and from work every day.

I heard they are doing ten, can’t wait to see one on the West Coast.

Looks like a Ken Patterson pic of a couple of models. They need some weathering. [;)]

Look great but the script Canadian Pacific is a tad too small.

I agree, I prefer the script over block lettering. Maybe someone just ordered the wrong size stencil.[(-D]

Let’s see if someone can get the first MRR forum member photo of one of these babies. With all the cell phones out there it shouldn’t take long.

Have you guys see the Trains Magazine article on these locomotives: https://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2019/09/16-canadian-pacific-releases-two-sd70acu-heritage-units

It gives a lot of information. These are the first of a group of 10 locomotives to be painted. 5 will feature the script letters ring and 5 the block lettering.

And of course to make Brent happy, they will be assigned to CPs lines out west. It sounds to be like they will be more of a rare sight on the Eastern and US CP tracks though…

I kind of wish CP would some of the other past paint schemes or a predecesor road, but whatever.

From the Trains article:“The locomotives are being rebuilt by Progress Rail in Kentucky. The first four SD70ACUs, Nos. 7000-7003, were recently put in service in British Columbia.”

This made me think, because I seem to remember a month or so back I thought I saw a grey and maroon CP engine here in CP’s St.Paul yard but didn’t get a close look as I was driving by. I wonder if it was one of these units, certainly would make sense if CP was sending them from Kentucky to B.C. that it would go through here (on CP’s former Milwaukee Road lines).

These didn’t exist a month ago or so, and haven’t left the rebuilt factory yet, so no, probably not.

CP did have a single GP38-2 painted in the heritage colours as well as a backup for their business train FP9s. You might have seen that? But would be pretty hard to confuse with an SD70ACu (rebuilt SD90 platform).

The first few units mentioned in service are in regular CP red. Out of the 60 units getting rebuilt, only 7010-7019 will be in heritage colours.

That could be what I saw. It was basically just a quick glance going 60 MPH on a highway of an engine 100+ yards away sitting in a yard. Recognized the ‘classic’ Canadian Pacific paint scheme but not much else.

While the 3084 (GP38-2) is a possibility, it has been out of service for several years. But since it has disappeared from the dead line in Calgary it is possible you might have seen it. Much more likely you might have had a glimpse of the F-units that are used on the business train and Royal Canadian Pacific charters.

John

Apparently 7010 is here in St.Paul…or at least was spotted in CP’s St. Paul Yard a couple of days ago. Sounds like it’s being ‘set up’ for service here before being sent to wherever it ends up being assigned.

They’re getting closer.

Lovely!!

Wonder if the Company will use them on the Christmas Trains???

Thank You.

Wow! That certainly is ugly…almost as bad as a BL2 or a low-nose GP30. I would have thought that CP would have learned their lesson with their two examples of the latter…bleccchhh!
