Canadian Pacific names Tobias interim CEO

Interim he’ll be. The real CEO will be Hunter Harrison, destroyer of CN.

He will sell off or scrap everything he doesn’t like, such as the D&H line in the east, the DM&E in the US, the Rogers Pass route in BC and so on. Since CSX or NS would love the southern Ontario lines, those will go too. So why keep anything east of Thunder Bay, ON? There’s lots of good real estate in Toronto (Agincourt Yard) or Montreal (St. Luc yard) to help boost short term income, too. There you have it, a rump of a railway west of Lake Superior. Lots of short term gain for long term pain!

Canada, you’ve blown it again!

"We are looking forward to working together to build value for our shareholders.”… So Bill Ackman can milk it for all it’s worth, take his money and run. He’ll be the death of CP.

CPR will survive. Investors clearly wanted big changes. So they’ll get their wishes.

I agree with Mr. Jordan. What parts of the former Soo Line that haven’t already been trashed will soon go that way. Anybody wanna buy the Glenwood, MN-Winnipeg line? How about the former IC&E to Kansas City? I predict those (and more) will soon be on the chopping block, including (as mentioned) the eastern lines. Bringing Harrison in to run CP is a tremendous mistake. As a longtime Soo Line fan and follower of railroading in the upper Midwest, I predict nothing good will come of this.

CP rail now has a chance to become the railway it always should have been. The coasting along of the former heads of the company made it the poorest run railway in North America. With new management it now has the opportunity to become the best run railway in North America. Best of luck to the new board.

Same as it ever was. Recently finished readed “Railroaded” by Richard White (highly recommended!) What will happen to CP is the same things done since the post Civil War era. A bunch of “money men” get control of a line, suck all the value out of it and leave a desicated corpse. We’ve seen it played out in our lifetime: McGinnis and the New Haven, Saunders and Penn Central, Bressler and the BN, Mellon and Guilford. Capitalists will be the death of free enterprise. If you like this sort of stuff, make sure you vote for Romney!

Get a grip people.
Lets run a railroad to make money, and be where the future is, out west, with the Asian Pacific countries?
Stop this peeing in your beer!
Are we running a railroad for the next 20 years, or caught in what was?
CP under
Harrison will compete with the number one railroad in North America, CN.
What else matters?
Let the games begin???
