Canadian Pacific selling SD9043MACs

I wonder if this a result of EMD closing their plant in London, Ontario? All of the other railroads are perfectly happy with their EMDs. Of course CP still runs SD-40’s, do they still have any GEs of that vintage on the roster?

When new the SD9043s were quite well thought of. Then they ran into problems as CP was buying GEs, and there were no further SD9043 orders (or SD70ACes, either) and they became oddball units in CP’s fleet.

good riddens!

good riddens!

Didn’t U.P. already eliminate their fleet? Those things were junk, never were reliable.

ODD…

It may have been a dice roll from the start. If memory serves, these were eventually susposed to be “true” SD90’s or SDMAC’s. The early units had smaller engines in them that were to eventually swapped out for the larger engine still being developed. It may not be the unit itself that’s flawed, just the powerplant. I do remember reading some debates about 10 years back that questioned 6,000 hp units. Couple two together and you have a 12,000 hp train as opposed to three 4,000 hp units, but if one unit failed, was 6,000 hp enough to pull the train?

Okay, but why?

LIKE THE STOCK MARKET " SOME YOU WIN SOME YOU LOOSE "

Think CN will make offer on these? That would be ironic, but they have been buying lots older power (SD60’s and GE Dash-8’s).

Here you go CN, more second hand power so you don’t have to spend money on new power. Add this to your current order of AC power from EMD, GETS.

The garage sale continues

Do uou guys need a proof reader? Seems like it

Probably just the first of asset sales to raise cash for stockholder dividend increases.

“The locomotives were never popular with CP . . . .”
I’m not trying to be snide or sarcastic or snippity or snarky here, but if they were “never popular with CP” then why did CP buy them in the first place?

Why do I get the feeling that the purchasing department should have checked out the merchandise before recommending a buy order?

Let’s see…CITX could buy some or all of the fleet, rebuild them and make them available for lease. Indiana Railroad could buy some…CN could buy the entire fleet, along with the spare parts…Lots of possibilities.
