Canadian Pacific's Boundary Subdivision

This is the trackage from about 8 miles west of Castlegar that ran to Midway. Back in 1991 or 1992 service along here ended and Canadian Pacific abandoned it. This section will become part of the Trans-Canada Trail at some point in the future. So as a result I plan on hiking it sometime in the next 2 years. But I wanted to ask a couple of questions. Has anyone hiked along it or know of why Canadian Pacific ceased operations through here? I’m looking forward to seeing what I see and experience along here. But I am prepared to meet up with wildlife and will be ready for any close encounters with them.

The Boundary Sub starts at Nelson and ran to Midway via Castlegar. East of Castlegar the Boundary Sub is still active. CP shut the Boundary Sub down as they claimed it was too expensive to keep the line open just to serve the mills at Grand Forks and Midway.

I just come back from Grand Forks, B.C. I found out that the Pope Talbot mill there and in Midway will be closing within the year. Most jobs lost and more good pensions lost.
