I got my C&O mountain loco in the mail today and it had
a warning lable on it that said this product contains cancer causing
materials according to the state of California
So just what is it they are talking about ?
I posted this on the Bachman forum and some one there said it’s a Califorina thing
In California these labels are on everything. Gas stations, hospitals, cleaning materials, oils. etc. The engine probably contains a lubricant or something in the electronics that California has deemed to possibly cause cancer. It is meaningless. Enjoy your engine. - Nevin
Lead in the solder used to assemble the circuit board, and the plastic gives off smoke when it burns. It’s hard to find anything sold in California that doesn’t have one of those meaningless warning labels on it. A clear case of Granny Government knowing what’s best for everyone and over-reacting to a perceived threat. Just living in California and breathing all those exhaust fumes is harmful to your health.
Don’t set fire to or eat the plastic shell or electronics circuit board and you’ll not suffer from owning the model.
Since the container your loco came over from China in was probably processed through a port in California, the mfg stuck that Prop 65 label on it to comply with what is probably the stupidest state law on the books - put there by the technologically challenged voters after having been qualified for the ballot by a bunch of ‘environmentalists’ who were totally ignorant of the ramifications.
Since I was residing in California at the time, I proposed that every baby born in California be indelibly stamped with the following:
WARNING!!! Being born has been statistically proven to be 100% fatal.
Unlike the other stupidity, mine failed to qualify.
Enjoy your locomotive. Just don’t add it to Mrs. Murphy’s chowder.

It has nothing to do with lead paint, according to BLI’s hasty rebuttal on their website a few months back when the various China scares happened. It must be the lead solder and also the rare earth metals in the decoders and circuit boards. Apparently, spreading your circuit boards with peanut butter and crunching them up for a quick breakfast is not recommended. The peanut butter will kill some of us.
Yeah, those warnings are as useful as being told that for the act of being born, one is given a death sentence that can be carried out at anytime, often without advance notice. Environmentalism seems to enjoy making people question whether they have a right to enjoy life.
Sadly, the ink and glue used for the warning label themselves are hazardous to your health. I second the earlier poster’s suggestion that you immediatly forward the unit to him for proper disposal. I’ll PM you his address.[swg]
I thought that cancer was caused by glowbull warming. Silly me. Speaking of GW…my 'lectric bill says it was 6degrees lower on average this May as compared to last year. Now where are the warning labels in four languages on my steak knives so that nobody cuts themselves at todays BBQ?
Were the rats DCC compatible? Do they run better on DCC? CAn the rats be consisted on DCC? Can they be programed to go directly to the cheese in the maze with DCC??? WHat roadnames do they come in and DO we need DCC rats?
