Candle's and tree's dont mix

As A fire fighter Today I worked A Structure (house) fire 2 Story
In my home town Cause candles on the dead christmas tree
13.000 people every year lose their home In A fire Some lose there life
This morning 7 People died 4 of them were young kids[:(][:(][:(][:(] with burglar bars on the door And windows on A 2 story house People you dont need them on the 2nd story burglars cant reach that high and they dont carry A ladder
By the time I got Inside It was to late the house was fully engulfed
with flames shooting out 10 ft from the window the family aparently
forgot to extinqui***hem before bed time they woke up to their own death
Had the children been on the 1st floor with no bars they would have had A chance but The main point is remember the 1 foot rule take a ruler measure 1 ft on every side and above candles never put them near curtains or drapes
And Always have an escape route in your home what I seen today was horrible
dont let It happen to you

…My oh my…What a tragedy…!! I can’t imagine people would still install candles on a christmas tree…[evergreen of some kind]. Years ago I did see clips with candle holders used to set candles on a real tree…There were no artificial trees then. Always wondered why anyone would take the chance to do such a thing. Such a sad and tragic story. Trees will go up like a torch when an accident happens to ignite them. No one should EVER do the candle on a tree thing…Never…!

Yes, I have to agree with Modelcar. Don’t do this.

I agree. and always make sure you have working smoke detectors in your house.
stay safe

As a retired firefighter,I’ve made too many of these runs!

If you do, you are a problem waiting to happen!

Wow - a lot of firefighters among us (me, too - gold badge).

“But George! They look so nice!”

This is why I invest so much effort into training the kids.

Stay Safe Out There.

Just another firefighter here
luckily its been a quiet holiday season for us aside fomr a car fire that could have been worse
check those smoke detectors and if you have co detectors chenge the batterys in them also

And for those who can never remember to change the battery - there’s a national campaign every fall - Change Your Clock - Change Your Battery. Our local newspapers even include it in their clock change reminders now.

Obviously there are a few of us brothers that are microferroequineoligists. (try and spell that with a hangover[B)] ) Larry if you want you can e-mail me about trading shirts and patches[:D]

We lost a retired couple (70’s) and their $850,000 house to a candle here in Lincoln on Xmas Morning.

1 - if I have any candles burning, I put them in something that if they burn down, they will go out, not spread.

2 - I set them away from everything and in a prominent place where I will see them before I go to bed

3 - if I had an $850k house and contents - I would darn sure have alarms for everything including when the cat sneezed!

Weird that they would put candles on the tree…hmmmmmm
