Cannot Identify

Found a HO Passenger Diesel and cannot identify the manufacturer. Can anyone help? Believe that it is an E7, has the square portholes. Union Pacific numbered 1476A.

A Google search indicates that it is an Atlas engine. Just type “UP 1476A” without the quotes into Google and it will be the first listing.

Does the F-9 have square windows? Google does show it as an Atlas Rocco.

Does it have a metal body or a plastic one? If it’s metal, then it was most likely made by Hobbytown. If it’s plastic, then it’s most likely Model Power/Roco. I don’t believe Atlas ever sold the Roco E7s.

The body is plastic. I suspect it maybe con cor but can’t find it.

HO Scale plastic E7

Model Power imported some made by Roco, later ConCor sold them. They have a a very large can motor with a single large diameter flywheel. 12 wheel drive. Atlas never sold these. Look for made in Austria for the Model Power ones. Some, but not all of the ConCor ones say assembled in Mexico.

Tyco, okay shell, cheesy chassis. Motor in one power truck. It was made in Hong Kong.

The Atlas model referred to above is an N scale F9, not HO.

Sounds like you have a Model Power E7. I have two. Does it have a “screw in the roof”?

“Back in the day” of the 1970s these were considered to be the best plastic HO E units one could buy as far as the drive. Even though only 8 wheels are powered, that huge Roco can motor allowed these E units to pull a pretty long train!

The body has a lot of potential and with some detailing can look really sharp. The one “annoying” eyesore was that screw in the roof. Most modelers remove it, and fill in the hole. A friend of mine fabricates tiny “L” brackets to secure the body to the chassis.
.

It does have the screw in the roof (didn’t see it for a while when trying to get the shell off) and the large can motor. What kadee couplers do you use? Thanks for the help everybody.
