CANON 40D WORTH IT?

Im am really thinking about upgrading from my 35mm Canon EOS Rebel to the Canon 40D. Anything I shoud know? Seems like a good camera.

You should know that it’s epic and a great camera for a railfan. But, what’s your budget, and what’s in your lens bag?

Well, assuming my the lens that came with my 35mm will work, I have a 35-90 I believe. As far as my budget, got about $1700 saved up, looking to find a vehicle for around a $1,000 sometime soon, so there you go.

I have a EOS Elan that I bought in the 90s. A couple years back I bought Chris’s old D60. I am very happy with it. And the best part was all my old lenses worked on the new body. I’d say go for it !!![8D]

I have a 20D and a 5D. and I love them both. The only thing is though, The sensors on the series the 20D and 40D are in are a bit wider, so if you want to print your photos, you have to make sure you are shooting the subject within a standard size. I have one that I wantto print, but it is too wide and will crop part of the main subject. As long as your 35mm camera has the Canon EF mount on it, it will fit, but remember, The lens you get with the 40D will not fit on your EF mount on your 35mm.

If you’re going to get a car , I’d save the $700 for repairs, fuel, insurance, registration, tires, etc…

Just a quick clarification on the lenses. All EF lenses work will all EOS cameras. EF-s lenses will only work with 1.6 crop cameras after the D60. That would be the 10D (not 100% sure on this one), 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D. If you buy a 40D kit (be sure its from a reputable retailer) that has a lens with it, more than likely it won’t work with your film camera. The 40D is a fine camera, I’m sure you will be happy with it.

Thanks for making more sense of that John! I was having trouble putting that into words like that.
