Ok my old digital camera is a littel outdated and i have been looking for a new digital camera for RailFaning In the real world and on my layout, i have been looking around a multiplye places for cameras and i always new canon was a reputable brand when it came to cameras. Anyone have any expierence with there powershot series or the PowerShot A540, it looked like a pretty good camera for the price and i found a camera site with sales it rather cheap. Here
If you have any expiernce with it please post.
I have a Canon Powershot A75 and we just bought my daughter the A540. Both cameras have very similar features, the main difference is the A75 uses 4 batteries as opposed to 2. This may or may not be an important feature to you. If you are away from your recharger for lengthy periods of time, I find the 4 battery A75 lasts considerably longer … however, there’s the obvious trade-off of the fact it is physically larger. I’ve had great success taking everything from low light model pictures to bright outdoor shots. The manual override feature is almost a necessity, and will compensate very well in extreme conditions. I’m certain you’ll be VERY pleased with your selection.
Here’s a quickie example of the type of close-ups you can get …

Now does the A540 capable of recharging batteries, I have some Radio shack Ac adapters with multiple plug adapters. Or does it come with a adapter to recharge it with?
The Canon A series cameras use AA batteries ( it comes with 2 or 4 alkaline batteries as required to get you going ). You will need to invest in a proper battery charger and rechargeable batteries. Nickel-metal-hydride ( NiMH ) are the recommended batteries for long life. There is no “onboard” battery pack to recharge.

ok thanks for the information.
The dp review site is a great place to learn about digital cameras. It is run by Cnet.com. There is a Canon forum where you can take your model questions. The Kodakians will wonder why you didn’t get a EasyShare Z612 or P712 model? Along with the Canon S3IS, they seem to be the best non-DSLR’s on the market.
