Car Accident will delay projects

I was involved in a head-on car crash 3 wks ago and am lucky to be writing this. The other driver was speeding and had lost control of his vehicle in a curve. My car was totalled as they had to cut the roof off to get me out. I was knocked out for 5 hrs and woke up in the hospital ER. My left shoulder was broken as well as my left femur. No surgery was needed on the shoulder but I was in the operating room for 3 hrs for the leg. I’m in a rehab facility now and just got my laptop wifi working. Probably won’t be going home for at least 3 weeks.

Sorry to hear about the accident but at least the injuries weren’t more serious than that. How is the other driver or do you know? I hope your insurance will cover everything. I know some insurance Co’s don’t cover very much if anything at all. I know what its like to be off of work due to an accident, I used to drive tow trucks in the bay area in Ca. Had a car come rolling backwards one day when I was loading it on a flatbed to take to a salvage yard, pulled the car up partway onto the bed then opened the hood to undo trans linkage so car would roll rest of the way up the bed easily, when I popped the linkage loose the engine rocked backwards on its motormounts (front drive cars will do that) and smashed my hand between the rear cylinder head and the firewall. luckily I had my cell phone handy and called the office for some help. spent two weeks off because my hand swelled up like a ballon. Didnt brake any bones but didnt feel good either.

Keep it on the high shiny stuff. Neil

Bob, I hope you make a full recovery.

Yes, I would say that would delay a few projects.

I also know how long and boring hospital stays can be.

Take care and follow the rehab instructors guide so you can recover quickly and safely!

I will add you to the prayer list for when we light the prayer candles for those who need special thoughts and prayers.

Get well soon.

Glad you came through it with no more than that. Road accidents can be nasty affairs.

Sorry to hear about your accident but am sure all will be ok. While waiting you could download trainz or a similar simulator to keep you busy.

I was in a head on skating accident and was about to be wheeled off to the operating room last feb, but I got out of the operating room. Let me help you with some tips. The best thing you can do is to get a cookie baking pan and use that as a workbench on your lap. I accomplished a lot that way. Also, send your wife to the train room every week and tell her to run a train with a track cleaning car over every track. If you dont do this, you will have one nasty meeting with your DCC system later. Trust me, this is the best thing you can do. Good luck recovering.

It is very good to have you back on the forum, Bob, but I am really sorry about your pain and all the inconvenience you now must endure. I hope you bounce back really well and quickly.

The 19 year old SOB walked away without a scratch. His two passengers had minor cuts and bruises.

I know it sucks but it wont help to be mad at the SOB. I’m sure you know he didn’t intend on hurting you or his precious vehicle. He was being a kid and probably was doing what many of us were at that age but were lucky not to get hurt. Concentrate on getting well and hurry back. Let the lawyers worry about him

Bob,

this is awful news! I am glad you weren´t hurt much more. I have been through a head-on collision which put me into hospital for nearly a year and the other driver, who decided to go down the motorway in a wrong lane, into an early grave.

My healing [angel] for you!

I’m really not mad at him and I’m glad he wasn’t hurt. I hope he has learned his lesson. Neither of us had top level injury protection insurance. In an attempt to save some money I had reduced some of my coverage a month earlier and I still have 55 days before my medicare kicks in with no other health insurance. I’m kind of mad at a system that requires one to wait 24 months after starting SS disability to get medicare. And I hate the way hospitals treat you if you don’t have premium insurance coverage.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you have a loop ready for you to run when you get home. Sounds like it may be a little while before you are able to use your left hand for much finish work.

Get well soon,

[V]

Hi Bob,

It is tuff not to feel some anger, but don’t waste the energy on that. Concentrate on healing and rehab and get yourself back to your home, family and layout .

Rest assured that many of us here will have you on our prayer list and if possible I bet Garry will send the Chapel Car your way.

Keep us inform of your progress. I am sad that this happened to you.

Johnboy out…

Hi Bob.

If the other guy and his passengers are OK, don’t waste your energy worrying about them. Put the energy to use in getting yourself back in shape. We will keep you in our prayers for a speedy recovery and healing process.

Just a little something so that you know that you are not alone in your pain and suffering. I had been putting up with a sore right shoulder since last September and finally I went to our Family Doctor in January. An Ultrasound showed what appeared to be a couple of minute tears in the Rotator Cuff. Physio Therapy should have healed it after 2 + months but it was getting worse so I was sent to an Orthopedic Surgeon who booked me for an MRI on the shoulder. It turns out that the two small tears are a through and through tear of the Rotator Cuff that no amount of Physio will fix. Surgery is tentatively booked for November 3 this year followed by immobilization of my right arm ( guess who is right handed ) for 6 to 8 weeks and then Physio Therapy for a minimum of 6 months or possibly up to a year due to my age. ( 71 )

Again, all the best for a speedy recovery and may the [angel][angel] watch over you.

Blue Flamer.

Bob,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Its good to hear you’re on the mend. I hate hospitals. It doesn’t matter what kind of insurance you have. The second the coverage is up-- you miraculously “get well”. Time to go home. IV tube fell out? No problem, you can just scoop it up and take that home with you. Good luck, so long, ta ta! Hospitals… grrrrr… Don’t get me started.

John

Trains really are great therapy. They take your mind off of everything else, and that in itself is sometimes the best medicine. Look forward, and maintain a positive attitude. You’ll get there.

Bob

all I can say is man as soon as you get out of the hospital go buy a lottery ticket. Glad your able to tell us what happened and not one of those hey did you hear what happen to Bob that was too bad he was a nice guy stories. Make sure who ever visits you brings model railroad mags and maybe sneak you in a kit or two don’t let something like this keep you from modleing

Glad your on the way back

Bob, I’ll add my prayers to those already praying for you. I don’t know if I’d ask the wife to run your trains while you’re down… you may not get them back. [:)]
