Car floats in N..

Tried Google, tried a couple different online hobby sites, even looked at the sparsely stocked local hobby shop and haven’t found much. The only promising item I’ve found is this one .

Anyone else using car floats on an N-Scale layout?

No but it sounds like a neat idea.

A friend of mine is going to model a large one by laying Nscale track on a Walthers HO model. It works if you have the space for it. Car floats come in all sizes from lake or river to ocean going. Most modelers have scratch built them by S.W.A.G. plans or what looks close enough. Do you want it to be fixed or moveable, like a fiddle or staging yard?

SWAG? Not familiar with the name.

I’m contemplating going for a four-track float and only utilizing two tracks per session so that I can have some extra staging area, albeit visible. If I only go for a two track, I’ll probably build it so that the scenery it sits on is removable so that I don’t have to worry about the stability of the model on it’s own.

Some Wild A-- Guess.

You could get a board and saw it to size, sand it smooth, then just build a deck on top and lay track on it. Try searching for pics of real ones to get some idea of how and where to add some details.

The idea of just the flat-top deck is something I’ve considered. Raise the sides up, add some railings, detail the deck to have a few oil spills, maybe some grain piles from cars leaking, etc.

I’d use a small era-correct tug to move what would essentially be a flat-topped barge with tracks.
