Hi all
If it worked there should be a link to an artical in constructing coaches
in card board an old techneque.
But a good one for the more intricate older ones

Hi John,
Nothing. Says page not found. Link OK? Later eh…Brian.
Hi bman36
Works from my favorites list but not the Forum I had to type it in.
because I could not get it to attach to the message
Not sure what I did wrong.
Ask me about trains I can come up with or have a good go at finding an answer.
But computers are more like the dark arts.

John,
Works for me now too. Wow, talk about in depth and detailed. This would be a help to anyone building a coach no matter what the material. thanks for the link. Later eh…Brian.
Thanks for the link John, very cool site.
Hi
While the artical is mainly aimed at the English 16mm scale modeler.
I thought it may be of use particularly to any one that may want to make some of the early US railroad
cars (oops made of wood Erhm coaches) which bore many similarities to the the English /European coaches.[:D]
I know some are manufactured in HO but I dont expect to see any manufactured in “G”
Cannot find a decent drawing being in the wrong country.
So I won’t be building any shame they would look good done properly a cheap coach that doesn’t look it.
regards John
John, Give me an idea of what year time frame 18?? to 19?? and I will check some books over here for you maybe e-mail something to you.
Hi Matt
Not sure we are talking just pre bogie (trucks I think they are called in the US) to just after introduction of crude truck I think.
A lot of passenger coaches where still just showing road horse drawn carriage influences but they where not long for the Junk yard.
as progress was fairky rapid in the early days.
regards John
Hi carpenter matt
Any luck finding any thing one of my modelrailway freinds sugested looking in the
Model Railroaders from your bi centenial year I dont have any apparently one of those has a bogie coach on crude
bogies that still has the horse drawn coach look to it?
regards John
John, I think I understand what you’re looking for, Coaches that still have more of a stagecoach look then that of late 1800’s train car. I struck out on pics but found a web site www.andibradley.com it seems to be a personal archive of photos. However I couldn’t figure out how to open them. I think you may have to e-mail him and he will e-mail you back the picture or pictures your looking for. Let me know what happens.
Hi carpenter matt
You got it.
The US went to bogies before the UK so had for want of a better way of puting it bogie stage coaches where as far as Ii am aware all the UK coaches of that type ended there days still on four wheels.
Andi and I are on the same model railway news group so will see what he can come up with.
regards John
2 questions does the last picture with the guy in it show the generl look of the carrige? and is 16mm compatable with1:22.5
Hi trainmaster1989
16mm to 1 foot is 1/19 scale
For the most part practicsioners of 16mm model two foot gauge railways and coaches and they are more often than not of similar size to an LGB coach so could be put on 45mm gauge wheels think Welsh narrow gauge or Maine spelling ?? two footers.
I put the link up because the construction method can be adapted to any scale, I have seen some very nice Hornby sized coaches
made in card.
If you go back to the early days of the model railway/railroad hobby that is how coaches where scratch built.
any panneld type coach could be built this way.
So if you have seen a coach you liked that is not manufactured or is far too Expencive in 1:22.5 there is no reason you cannot use this method or an adaption of it to get the coach.
regards John
hi when john first put it in on the link where it says /articles john put /articals just thought you might wanna know brodie
Hay Ya’ll
This might be my next project.
Nick
Hey Ya’ll
Well, I have just come across alot of thick cardboard shoe boxes and I am building 2 coaches based on the coaches Annie and Clarabel in the Thomas the Tank Engine videos.
Wish me luck.
Nick
Hi Nick
Read the article carefully the guy that wrote it knows what he is on about.
You will possably find the shoe box card is too thick for that style of coach
it needs to be good quality manila card the stuff office folders are made of.
the panel work on the English.coaches realy does scale out that thin.
Also give some thought to a nice two colour livery for the coaches and have a look at some
pictures of that kind of coach if you have access to any but certanly worth going to the effort to make
them.
And do take note of the use a very sharp knife part and always cut away from your self
Have fun
regards John
Hey Ya’ll
Thats a good idea. However, the thickness of the cardboard will hold the coaches togeather. I will use the cardboard as an inside wall and then put the card over the walls.
The project is coming along greatly. I have the walls and the roof ready, but I will work on the inside of the coaches before putting it all to geather I think I will paint it like the Caledonion Railway coaches.
I have always been atracted to them, and I think I will scratch uild an 0-6-0 tender locomotive to go with them.
I plan on making 3 of them. I hve found alot of figures at a local garage sale and then I found 3 small toilets that will suit these.
