Well considering that the current recession we are now coming out of started during his administration, I assume that the president you’re referring to is George W. Bush.
I see the usual escapees from the mental ward are out.
Yep, Obama has vowed to close every little dinky rundown tourist RR in favor of Hi Speed Rail. I heard it on Fox news.
Why is it that people blame the President for all of their problems? Is it a handout from the government that they are seeking?
Of course nobody can blame His Great And Glorious Grand Oneness Of Economic Understanding Far Greater Than Friedman. It’s not his fault the provider class is trying to hang on to what little they have remaining before the socialists in government steal it in order to first skim off the top, bottom, front, back, and both sides and then giving it to the recipient class. If no buyer shows up, take it as a sign that anybody who might start a small business, won’t, because of socialist government regulations and interference. One thing the socialists will never understand is one day they will run out of resources which they steal from those who actually work for a living. Because those who work for a living will have no more resources to steal.
On the other hand, perhaps Warren Buffett is interested. He is part of the socialist elite class. They are always exempt from socialist government regulations, theft, waste, fraud, and abuse.
I will blame the closure on the president with no sarcasm.
@ Goosie: “top, bottom, front, back, and both sides”, “His Great And Glorious Grand Oneness Of Economic Understanding Far Greater Than Friedman”: What on earth are you talking about???
O, yes, let’s blame everything on President Obama, Jim Norton; After all; he’s a Non-native Muslim. Sarcasm intended.
Back to the topic. I found this video recording a visit to this little road in the middle of nowhere in 1997. I wish I had known about it earlier.

Here is a photo I shot of the last train creeping through the weeds on it’s last run.
@VASYL DOMASHEVSKY - Well, he’s either referring to Tom Friedman, the creator of the “Friedman Unit” (the Iraq War will be a success in six months from now, whenever now is), or Milton Friedman (slightly more likely), the inventor of the theory of “Regulatory capture” which is the theory that railroads benefit from burdensome, crippling, overbearing, government regulation.
I’m not making that up. He really thought that, and he did specifically use railroads as his example.
I guess some people can’t avoid getting in some political jabs in.
I rode this lin3 15 years ago. Was a very nice and overlooked operation. Met the owner who was very nice. Sad to see such an example of one man’s passion, pass into modernity. I liked it.
We rode for the first time about two weeks before the shutdown. It was a pleasant, unpretentious and friendly little operation, essentially located in Middle-of-Nowhere IN. If Mr Allison was indeed responsible for the “it’s all Obama’s fault” sign, then I am considerably less sympathetic to his plight.
Yes, Mr Willis, “all are entitled to an opinion.” Including me.
All are entitled to an opinion. You have to admit this “recovery” is a joke. When 48% of the working age adults are sitting at home, I call horse crap.
I agree with Greg about the mental ward escaprees, but more on point I would wish that Trains would actually screen the comments and only post those though that actually relate to railroad subject matter.
Darrell, in my opinion CKS is in the “sweet spot” location for a railway museum - about 1 hour away from an enormous metro area. See IRM, OERM, KyRM, and many others. It’s far enough away to be a getaway and not be impacted by suburban encroachment, but close enough to still be an easy cheap family outing.
Given Indiana Transportation Museum’s tenuous relationship with its landlords, it would be a natural for ITM to move at least their electric operation there and own it lock stock and barrel. Railroad museums need to own their property.
