Did this set ship yet? I see several sites have it listed, but they show coming in March… Uh, it’s like May now… I think the expansion pack was due in May too?
Received my set about a month ago from Charlie at Nassau Hobby. Really a very nice logging set, the SP&S docksider is super nice. The 3 car add-on set has not shipped yet.
I’ve seen the set as well as set break ups on that internet auction site. These Docksider sets are great and seem to sell well. I really wish I got the first one the Jones and Laughlin steel set. I think those sold out fast. I’ve never seen one. The Copper Range set I got is great. I am really thinking hard about getting the logging set. I know I will get the add on for this. The working hand car alone would alone be worth $60.
I think these are great starter sets and are an easy way to get into the hobby and not feel embarassed about your first purchaces as you advance in your tastes. In the big picture I think these would save money in the long run because they wouldn’t need to be replaced with something “better” because so far they seem pretty realistic (for the most part). I can’t wait till next years new version.
Now that Lionel has the K-line line as well I would love to see the Porter steamer in some starter sets like these. I think it would be great for Lionel to slowly phase down the old 4-4-2 classic starter set engine to one set a year. It is showing it’s age a bit.
I’ve had my eye one one of these sets (copper or cascade) because I’ve heard such good things about the Docksider. I’m curious though, how does the whistle sound on the Docksider? And is there room to add a better sound unit (like one from Electric RR)?
Bobby
I have both the Copper Range set and Cascade Range set, the Docksider’s whistle is somewhat weak and a couple steps above sick goat. Don’t know if there is room inside for a sound upgrade. Other than that, both sets are a great addition.
I got mine last month online and saw it last week in the local shop. I love the dockside switcher. great at all speeds (for an inexpensive engine, at least). I think the whistle sounds okay, but it doesn’t sound like a traditional whistle. This set is my inspiration for my budding logging layout.[:D]
