Kind of biting the hand that feeds them. The Cass deserves better than this. They run a nice operation that provides jobs in an area where I suspect they may be kind of scarce.

If this turns out to be true, it is so sad. I just rode Cass all the way to Bald Knob in October, and it was by far the best ride of several I had done in the east. The folks running the trains were obviously proud of their railroad, and were most hospitable. If a few decided to convert some scrap into cash, and these amounts are not all that much, and risk their jobs and the reputation of Cass, they need to go.

There would be a lot less scrap metal theft if the scrap yards receiving it would report suspicious transactions to the authorities as happened in this case. Kudos to the Elkins company.

Real simple folks, “Get a rope!”. This makes this retired Park Manager and rail preservationist’s blood boil. Sad, very sad.

I don’t understand why every state doesn’t pass laws that require persons turning in scrap to provide identification. Idaho has such a law. When the scrap company accepts scrap for cash, they demand to copy your driver’s license. Records are computerized. Scrap is therefore sourced. This of course is for legitimate scrap dealers, and was passed because of drug abusers selling scrap to support their habits. It doesn’t cover the scrap dealers who don’t play by the rules, of course.

What does your list have to do with employees stealing scrap?

SPIKE 'EM TO THE WALL!

Fines should levied for triple value and turned over to the RR

I think its another " sign of the times", as there were 11 people involved,it would seem to me, that a lot of people knew this was going on.

THE SCRAP COMPANIES UP OUR WAY HAVE HAD TO ASK FOR IDENTIFICATION. MANY HOUSES FOR SALE HAVE BEEN STRIPPED OF ALL METALS,WATER RUNNING,FUEL OIL SPILLING IN CELLAR.IT IS REAL BAD!
