Casting Bridge Piers

After searching several companies for bridge piers, I realized I need to cast my own to get the proper look. The question I have is that this will be a module that will travel, what would be the most durable plaster or material to use that reasonably easy to use? I’ve thought about using wood or even styrene, just keeping all my options open.

Thanks

Ricky

I’d suggest something a little more durable, if you don’t mind a little extra weight…patching concrete. That’s what I used on my Canyon Diablo Bridge module, because I tried plaster and it had a tendency to crack when the module was moved. Make your mold out of styrene. You can scribe the styrene to make it look like a form made from individual boards if you need to.

I look forward to seeing your module come together! [:)]

I have seen some very nice ones done from extruded foam cut with a hot wire tool. If you are looking for concrete, just texture the surface a little and paint, for stone use a scribing tool or ballpoint pen tip to scribe in the lines. Paint and wash as with other materials. No weight, strong and not subject to breaking.

Good luck,
