CASTING YOUR OWN SCENIC DETAILS

How does one set up this process?

What are the materials required?

Is it really too difficult for the non-experienced?

EXAMPLE:
I’ve been trying to find HO scale crates of fruits & veges with no success.
I’ve heard of people casting their own details, so now I’m considering doing
it myself, and future detailed parts too.

Use RTV for Molds, Casting Resin or plaster for parts. Look here:

If all else fails google RTV Mold matrerials and/ or casting resins.

John - This is another one of those subjects that can’t be done justice to by three or four sentences or a brief paragraph on a forum like this (but I’m sure several folks will naively try!). Use MR’s magazine index to locate previous articles addressing this subject in MR, RMC, etc. and get a copy of one of them as a step-by-step reference. Casting model details isn’t at all difficult but you must fully understand the process and how to go about it properly to create good molds and cast perfect replicas.

sept 1995 and may 2002 issues of MR have articles on casting detail parts

Micro-Mark also sells the supplies and instuction booklets. You can cast parts in plastic resin or metal. Your choice!

LOL, hard part is making the prototype to make the mold from. Fred
