For the last few years the only reason Canadian Pacific kept the rail line through Castlegar is the Cominco Smelter in Trail. The mills in Castlegar had closed down for some time but now that both of them are up and running, has there been an increase in railcar volume in Castlegar?
Yes. I presume that you know that the Celgar pulp mill has its own switcher assignment that works 6-7 days a week. Celgar’s been up and running the entire time save for maintenance shutdowns, although the Interfor sawmill was dormant for a while. Ballpark figure, the whole thing puts out about 20-30 carloads a day, up to half of them from the sawmill.
