Hi,
I’m far from a CB&Q expert, but I’d like to know when the CB&Q started using the Chinese red paint scheme on their freight cars. I model 1956 and want to see if it’s appropriate for my layout.
Thanks!!!

According to the index for the Burlington Route Historical society publication, the first Chinese red box car was #62500 (XM-32F) 2-58. I remembered that Accurail’s earliest model in Chinese Red was built in 1958 (too late for my time period), so I did a goggle search for “chinese red date,” and found the above reference. Perhaps others can verify from other data.

Hi!
I had a Lionel layout in the '50s and my Mother bought me an All-Nation CB&Q boxcar kit in that beautiful Chinese Red color at that time. I believe she got it in early 1958, and my thought is that if there was an All-Nation model, then there was a prototype.

PS: Look up the CB&Q historical/modeling society and they will surely know.
Chuck, you’re right on the money, March 1958.
