Hello again Matt
Look at these,

Hello Matt,
CDEX…stands for Coastal Distribution LLC an nation wide lease fleet of rolling stock ,mainly open top hopper cars. Next time you see reporting marks and you wonder what company owns them. Try Railroadpictureachives.net ,they have a list of reporting marks as well as photos of locomotives and rolling stock.
Hope this helped…

Matt, When reporting marks end with an X it means it’s owned by a leasing co, not a railroad.
Actually, Chad and Matt, a reporting mark ending in “X” is owned by a private company, not necessarily a leasing company. Many large industries (Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil,) or utilities own their own cars, and have reporting marks ending in “X” assigned to them.
On the flip side, many leasing companies put their cars under railroad reporting marks to maximize the revenue they get from them. The big freight-car lessors all have their subsidiary railroads–they’re usually the lines that have more cars than trackage to fit them on.
Except in the case of CSX, or maybe they letter thier cars CSXT…im not sure.
Yes.
