Cedar shingle colors?

What would be a good method to paint heavily weathered cedar shingles? I’d drive around town and figure it out that way, but there are no houses with cedar shingles–plenty of slate roofs, but no cedar…

The roof parts of the kit are molded in dark grey. I know I don’t have to start there (base coat it something else).

Thanks for the help.

Cedar shingles weather to a medium grey, though of course not an even color. I would start with an airbrushed light to medium grey, then, with a wide brush, streak it heavily with a thin india-ink wash. Repeat until it looks “right”. Incidentally, from a safety standpoiint you should re-roof your buildings with a less flammable material. Your people will thank you when the kids start shooting off bottle rockets around next Fourth of July… [:)]
