Ceiling Tile Scenery

A number of years back, CTT ran an article on using pieces of ceiling tiles for rocks. Does anyone know what issue that was? I have been going through my files, but I cannot seem to locate it.

Thanks!

I just happened to have that issue out. It’s March 2005 Build Rock Scenery from Ceiling Tiles.

Thanks! I hadn’t found it because I hadn’t got that far yet (it takes a while to go through them all).

In the same vein, I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has used ceiling tiles and who might have additional suggestions (or warnings).

Thanks!

Check out this site for a complete how-to on ceiling tile rock faces.

A guy named Frank53 has done outstanding work with ceiling tiles. Go to Lionellines.net [corrected] to see.

Chief is right but the website is LionelLines.net specifically here .

When I first saw the title to this thread, I thought that somebody was resurrecting the old MRR April Fool article about building a layout upside down on the ceiling.

I don’t have access to my pictures right now, but what I did was place the ceiling tile pieces and stack them into position. I didn’t want to dismantle the rock face once I had the look I was going for so I mixed regular white glue (I bought a gallon of it from Michaels) with saw dust that I had from cutting all the wood for the layout. This made a nice thick paste that I then coated the face with a cheap paint brush. I let this dry and it did exactly what I wanted, bonded the ceiling tiles together, smoothed out some areas and made others slightly rougher. I then proceeded to paint the face the desired color, while the paint was still wet I dashed some ground cover over the wall as well.

I will try to post the process pictures tonight.
