Celluclay

Has anyone used Celluclay when doing scenery? If so ; what were the proportions used i.e. water etc. ? I have a bag of the product that I got quite a while back but it doesn’t instructions on using it.

I am dmaking hills/mountains from styrofoam & I am thinking of using this to cover the styrofoam then either painting it & applying woodlands grass/turf to it.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

I’ve used it…didn’t like it. It really is a paper mache’ but it is really lite when it dries and hard. To dusty though for my like, very little water and it takes awhile to blend together you really have to work it. If you mix it to runny it will work but it takes days to dry. (so I’ve heard!!!) To use what I have left, I use it to fill in around my blue foam to smooth it out a little… but it is dusty!

Thats what I’ve found,

Guy

I recently posted a query about the difference between Celluclay and Sculptamold on the General Questions section of this forum. You may want to look at the feedback I got. The general consensus was that although Celluclay can be used, it has several draw backs such as shrinkage and very long drying times that sometimes result in mold growth.

In the November 2005 issue of MRR mag, there is a good recipe for ground goop. If I need to change the texture, I add more water. I feel that the dirt looks realistic.
