Celluloid strips for tinplate passenger cars

I just acquired a pretty nice set of 2442 (x2) and 2443 passenger cars but the celluloid strips are missing. Besides buying reproductions, can I make my own? Has anyone ever tried something like transparency film?

thx, Don

If you have access to a scanner, you can make your own using transparency material. Make sure you have the type that matches your printer (laser vrs inkjet).

If you want to get real adventuresome, you can scan in photo’s of train interiors (from old Amtrak trip planners) and shrink these down to make color photo inserts. I don’t know why this didn’t catch on more. These inserts look better than most of the plastic people that are installed inside of passenger cars [:)]

I have some photo’s, I’ll try to find them.

Thanks for the reply Chuck. Actually these are the tinplate pullman and observation cars that had clear window strips without silhouettes. But it might be interstesting to try adding silhouettes to these cars. Not sure how well they’ll show up since there’s only 1 bulb in the car and there are cross members in the window frame.

I made mine from the clear plastic from the top covers of gift boxes. The box was for a dressing gown. Plenty of material in that. Thicker than standard, but robust and stays flat better.
