Censorship Here

Does any of them have any sense of humor, I have had 2 posts deleted for apparently no good reason, both clean no obscenity, well my only recourse is no more posting, no more subscribing to Trains.[:(] Day.

As the title to the old Frank Sinatra song said…“That’s Life”.

Obscenity is not the only reason that posts are deleted. Abusive, racist, or nasty remarks will also be deleted, as well as listing items for sale. At the top of the “Trains” forum heading there’s a message that goes into detail on this topic.

SR,

You’re right. They were both clean and had no obscenity. [:)][tup] However, your posts were deleted because you kept trying to resurrect a topic/thread that had been closed earlier. [:(][tdn]

Tom

I have a question specific to that criteria. Why is it verboten to revisit a topic?

There are countless threads in this group of boards that I have NEVER seen before. Suppose tomorrow I develop a curiousity on a subject that has been “covered” before…I run a local search, find the old topic, but HAVE A QUESTION THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED in the posts made prior, So…I “bump” the old thread with my new question…what’s so wrong with that?

Convicted, you missed the “closed earlier”. You can’t bump a thread that has been locked, other than those locked on the earlier Snitz version of the forums.

Yes, this original poster’s question is specific to his case, and Tom is pointing out that the topic he chose to “resurrect” (reintroduce, really) had been discussed in two previous threads that had been locked in the previous 24 hours. Tom locked or deleted the entire thread because he felt we didn’t need the third strike to determine that the topic was “out”…of bounds. Even if just for the foreseeable future.

As for bumping up a previously locked thread, I don’t know that it can be done, but suppose it can be…reintroducing it to the current stack could be problematic if it invites the same kind of responses that made it objectionable at the point of its being locked. I’m not saying it would be a bad idea, just that it could be. I guess it depends on what the reason for the resurrection would be.

So, O Thou of the Convicted, nothing wrong with it per se…certainly not for a topic still in good stead. Just the locked ones could raise an eyebrow 'round these here parts. And, for the gentleman above, re-introducing the topic in a thread hours after it was chopped is not going to go over well.

CO,

The reason for SRs deleted threads was that two previously related threads - i.e. the original and an update, posted by another forum member - had been locked and SR attempted to resurrect the topic by posting about it again - twice! He was sent an explanation for the deletions both times.

Tom

Ok, SR, keep it up and you will be tied to my O gauge track and run over by my “Phantom”.

(Hey, it hit my toe one night and it HURTS!)

Don’t get discouraged, alot of posts seem to be locked or deleted but there are those that will go on for a long time also. Leaving is not the answer, your message made me want to get teary-eyed. And I am in a public place so I would probably get weird looks. At least more than I usually do.

your right if it dont fit thier meaning of railroading or what they feel is on topic they get rid of it. for several years nobody had any problems on here now in the last year it seems that you cant say anything that it just gets locked. ive seen lots of railroaders that wont come back just because of this. hey it is thier mag and thier forum,

Too true. Now the main concern seems to be being as politically correct as possible to the point of nauseam. They seem more concerned about “protecting” the incredibly naive while at the same time turning their backs on those that do not fit into their narrow-minded policies.

Perhaps I am being a bit egotistical, but I believe these forums would be incredibly boring, not to mention extremely uninformative without the contributions by real railroaders like wabash1, railwayman, and all of the others rails (which, unfortunately I cannot remember right now); and I hope others feel the same about the few contributions I try to make here.

So, moderators, if you want real railroaders from the real world to help you make these forums worth visiting, you might want to reconsider your Disneyland-style of wanting everything disgustingly sugar-coated.

Tstage and Selector,

Thanks for the reasonable (and enlightening) explanation. The way you put it ,…it makes perfect sense.

I was unaware that the poster in question had a recent history,…my bad

Nanaimo, your sense of relevance (and recall) are spooky. I’m sure that the incidents I have memories of are from scenarios exactly as you describe. I bumped a topic of personal interest only to have one of the chronic whiners start bawiling about their suspicions of what my motives might be. Just proves that it takes ABSOLUTELY NO TALENT to be a complainer.

In closing this thread, now that the OP has his answer, and other relevant questions have apparently been addressed, let me assure you that there is indeed censorship here. Otherwise it would be much closer to the free-for-all that is apparent on public user groups and forums where virtually anything can be said. We try to take a middle road in the censorship, and naturally we won’t make everyone happy here. It is an unrealistic goal evinced by the disagreements we read in many of the topics. I hope you understand that we find we get many private attaboys with our approach.
