My plans for Sunday took me close to Central Hobbies and I did need some glue and I had the necessary $5 so with unsuspecting innocence I dropped by the store.
The vicious and evil proprietors had maliciously stacked a pile of Proto 2000 Heritage USRA 0-8-0 switcher and tender painted and numbered for CN in boxes right next to the front door on sale for less than half price. $100CDN

$100 Canadian? That’s like what, $4.95 in real money?
No matter WHAT the conversion is, that’s a great deal on P2K 0-8-0s! The best price I’ve ever found was $95. Needless to say, I picked up a couple at that price!
Who would believe such crass evil could exist in such a pleasant world? Thank goodness the hobby dealers near me are God-fearing men and women who would never think of tempting an innocent lad.

If it helps to take out some of the sting, CN was the only roadname on sale but they did have several numbers. The box explains that some licence was taken with prototypical use by CN. They sure do run sweet.

Now lightbender your story is almost true but not one hundred percent true - Central Hobbies is closed on Sunday’s - just ask my son who works there on most Saturdays, when he’s not out with Army Cadets, or the RCMP Youth Academy, or the 6th Field Pipe and Drum band, or…
