15.8 million divided among 47 dead people and their relations, also probably some people maimed disabled disfigured…property owners deprived, businesses suspended and income not earned.
15.8 million…a 2nd tragedy!
Mr Carlin where would more money come from?
The initials sound like a combination of the Milwaukee Road and the Burlington. Maybe people will call it “The Q”.
@FRANCIS - the $15.8M is just the amount FIG paid for MM&A. There’s additional funds, including the proceeds of any lawsuits against Railworld, and compensation expected to be paid by the shipper who mislabelled the oil.
The article talks about a “nine figure fund”, so it looks like the amounts from these sources are expected to be significant.
Not that a couple of million dollars would feel like much compensation for a loss of a loved one to me but…
There was never any doubt in my mind that any money left over from the sale of assets AND lawsuits in this tragic case would amount to peanuts for the surviving relatives of persons killed in this accident. As the results of the different inquiries come out we realize that this was in fact a horrific accident, caused as usual by not one but a series of errors and other factors.
