Does anybody know what the capacity data should be on this car? (CAPY, LD LMT, LT WT) I just got an undecorated one (I think they only come that way) and I want to make some decals for it.
Thanks in advance…
[ Edit ] I think Champ Decal set #HC-112 has the info - anybody have the set?
Thanks, Ed, but since I’m lettering this car for the Flint Hills Northern (my free-lance road - we bought it from the NP in 1940 [swg]) I don’t really need anything but the capacity/weight data. No need to go to the NP forum on Yahoo.
Champ did the decals for it, but they’re gone now.
The only downside to the model is it’s about 1 scale foot too wide. The NPRHA sells replacement end pieces you can use if you want to narrow the car to the correct width.
that info I posted came from that champ set #115 and I think I have that Central Vally car its just not in the right box and no instructions for it and for me it that car is a foot too wide its staying that way its allready been put together I need to get the car painted and see if the decals are still good
Well, that explains why I had to remove material from the sides of the Central Valley floors and underframes used under these modified Athearn cars: [banghead]
Even with the extra width, they build into decent-looking cars and at a reasonable price.
I’ve sometimes wondered if a stockcar was ever loaded to anything even approaching its capacity. There’s a chart in the October 2004 issue of RMC that shows stockcar capacities, and a 40’ car was good for 27 1,000lb steers (just under 14 ton) or 21 1,400lb. critters (just under 15 ton).
