Had a great lunch on the mezzanine overlooking that ineffable concourse at Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse. Iconoclast that I am, I enjoyed a baked salmon. The view from that location is indescribable. Sadly, the wait to view the equipment was three hours. Just a bit too long. Sorry to have missed it but was glad to see Grand Central as I remembered it as a child. And as interesting as any of the facts about GCT is that according to the New York Times the terminal handles more people today than during the peak years of intercity rail travel thanks in large part to the growth of the city’s suburbs. Of course, short distance commuter travel always dominated its usage even though its fame was associated with the long distance limiteds that originated and terminated there.
How many times did Gleba go?
What an enjoyable day at Grand Central yesterday 05/12/2013 . Favorite private car Montana.

Our group arrived at 12:14 on the MNR train from New Haven. We’d allotted 45 minutes to see the trains before we had to leave for a theater performance. The line to view the trains was 2 hours long.
My wife and I got in line at 10:30 Saturday, and finished up the railcar tours at 2:00. And we bypassed the separate line (another hour plus) to see the Hickory Creek within the private car displays. The staff was overwhelmed! But a great show. Thank you, Metro-North.
5000 people in Grand Central for an “event”, and they were overwhelmed? Not good. Everyone there should have been accommodated!
I went up on Saturday. I drove up to the Harrison PATH Station and boarded the train to 33rd Street Station. The Saturday schedule takes you to Hoboken and back tracks to 33rd Street Station. I enjoyed watching the scenery go by. Arriving at the 33rd Street Station it was a short walk to Penn Station to catch a subway to 42nd Street Station and the shuttle train over to Grand Central Station. We arrived about 12:15 and found the end of the line down in the food court. The line moved quickly. They were only letting about 40 people at a time cross the hallways. I saw the 2 hour from this point sign at one of the corners. All in all I was in line for about an hour and forty five minutes. The 20th century car was blocked off when we arrived at it’s enterence about 3:45. We were able to walk through the rest of the displayed cars that were opened. The display’s in Vanderbuilt Hall were closed off when we tried to enter them at 3:50. At that time it was raining very hard outside, so eating was not an option. We decided to reverse out course and head back to New Jersey and eat over there.
If they are referring to the movie star, her name is Bette Davis.
I would love to have seen the cars on display too, but I got there at 3:00pm and was told that no one was to be let in because of crowds. I didn’t realize that 2:00 P.M was the new 4 O’clock.
What signal confirmation that a submitted reply was accepted, or, what advisement would indicate to a reply submitter that multiple submittings, such as R P Gleba’s half-dozen within the 1:24 minute of 5/13/2013 were forgeing a fait accompli into an electronic stutter?
I’ve double submitted…and apologise…but don’t know why or how the motive was electronically urged.
When the sunrises, the fog dissipates…please assist us, Jefe de Patio Commo.
I had a great time at GCT on Saturday. Picked up books and magnets there. I had lunch with my wife at Michael Jordon’s steak house. Unfortunatly, I got shut out of seeing the trains too, with 2pm became the new 4pm. I guess that I’ll have to wait for pictures and stories from Trains and other trains magazines. Oh, well.
Went down to Grand Central.Would, loved to have seen the whole collection but was told that the line was stopped and that no other people would be allowed to further extend it. Was unable to return on Sunday.
The equipment on display was fantastic, here were some long lines and a wait of about 90 minutes but it was worth every minute, kudos to Metro North RR.
