"Century" employees share memories of train during Grand Central Terminal parade of trains weekend

Having traveled from Boston on 5/11 to see this exhibit I was not happy to find a 3+ hour wait. I could not attend. Security and officials seemed overwhelmed. If there are further exhibits planned, I hope the organizers will arrange for reservations.

Did any remnant of the famous red carpet unroll on the platform of track 38? Were any historic locomotives back for the reunion (S, P, or T motors)? MetroNorth has had the Phoebe Snow square back obs car tucked away down in the GCT bowels in years past; did it make an appearance?
Wish I could have been there but the three hour wait I don’t miss.

I hope Trains was there to share with their readers.

I arrived at 10:30, and the line was stretching into the main concourse, around the clock. Even at that time they were telling us it would be at least two hours. I think that the officials were just realizing the volume of visitors they were going to have to deal with. They had to move and reconfigure the line many times as more and more people arrived, and I thought they did a pretty good job reacting to the changing situation. I saw parts of GCT I never knew about before!

Finally they set up about 20 Metro North MU cars on some lower platform tracks and staged people to sit in the cars, gradually releasing a car at a time to the upper tracks to see the display cars.

I was happy to befriend Ray, a nice fellow and railfan visiting with his wife and daughter from London, early on in the line, and we chatted and toured after the two ladies bailed out ! We got out about 2 - well worth the wait?
