The St Louis Corridor Manager stated the Challenger Steam Locomotive is slated for a Thursday departure from St Louis, however the time frame is not known at this time.

The 3985 will not lay over in Pine Bluff for 24 hours. It will just be there overnight.

no problem Mark, believe I will chase it and photograph it from St Louis down to Thiebes, where it crosses over the Mississippi back into Missouri, before returning home. I hope to get some good pics of it and will meet up with a firefighter friend of mine in Gorham, who is a railfan from Murphysboro as well.

Just watched the UP 3985 steam over the MacArthur bridge at 8:20 AM CST from my office window at SBC Center in St. Louis. What a sweet sight!!

Thanks for the good news Mark. My little one at home will be thrilled to hear that it’s moving again! Can’t wait for it to be in the neighborhood.

You might be a railfan if: Mainline steam is an automatic reason to skip work and pull the kid from school for the day…

Glad someone was able to see it over the Mac Arthur Bridge, I wasnt able to find a good spot for it on the Illinois side without trespassing and didnt want to take that chance, but I did manage to get some good pics of it on down the line and crossing the bridge at Thiebes as well.

I watched it at Dexter, Missouri…and then chased it to Bernie last night where I helped them tie up. I pulled the boy outta school at 1:30 p.m. it was running on railroad time and was 3 hours late but everyone loved to see it. I missed out on my cabride…I was supposed to ride in the cab on Sunday. [:(] Oh well I had fun.
