Challenger At Night

I live in South Dakota and I mostly photo trains at night. I have an extensive portable lighting system (12 lights) fired by radio triggers and use Nikon’s best fast lenses. I have about one year’s experience photo’ing trains at night (several times per week.)

On Wednesday morning, October 8th, the UP 3985 left Council Bluffs, Iowa at 2 AM. I was ready and waiting. Using my powerful White Lightning X3200 monolights I managed to get about four decent shots of the steamer as it made its way through the darkness in Nebraska. I followed it until dawn, which took me a bit west of Grand Island, NE. As far as the people in the UP Media Relations Dept. know, these are the only photos of the machine running at night.

Q: Is this something Trains Magazine might be interested in? If so, who can I contact? I’ve dealt with Kathi Kube in the past and she seemed very nice. Email me.

Thanks,
