How much of this is paid for by the federal government, sorry, I meant taxpayers? After all, this is West Virginia. You can’t go anywhere without encountering a sign showing how everything transportation related is paid for by the taxpayers of the other states. Except for anything related to coal, gas, and oil, of course.
Is there enough business in the state to justify an intermodal terminal? Last time I checked, decent roads for trucks capable of handling containers are limited to the few interstates. The overwhelming majority of state routes are garbage, at best, not recommended for containers of any size. Almost all of the trucks on those interstates are not stopping to pickup or deliver loads in the state.
Communities all around the country are “getting it”, they are seeing rail as a solution to the problems caused by congestion and trucks on thre highway. Every trailer on a trian is one you don’t have to dodge on the interstate.
I live near Charleston and I agree with Chris its nice to see rail coming back in a big way and eve though the “Charleston terminal” is in prichard ( a good 60 odd miles away) it will be a good boost to area jobs and industry in WV, KY, and OH
