Tatans, Thanks for the kind words, and perspective on prairie fires. I guess I really never thought about it, but running into a fast moving prairie fire would really shorten one’s exposure to the fire…
Thanks, Jim. I spent last weekend in near blizzard conditions while railfanning on the Moffat Sub (where I didn’t catch a single train), so this was a nice change of pace.
SFDepot & Rex - I was kind of speaking with tongue in cheek when I said that. I think a lot of folks’ idea of Kansas is I-70 (likewise with Nebraska and I-80). Both states offer some interesting places once one gets off of those highways. Who was it that said the interstate system was designed to go from sea to shining sea without seeing anything?
sfdepot- Amen brother! On my very first trip west of the Mississippi, I fully expected Kansas to be as flat as …well, central Indiana, where I live. I was absolutely amazed to find some of the prettiest rolling hills I’ve ever seen-(and I drove trucks, so I’ve seen a bunch!)
Anytime someone throws the old “flat as Kansas” line out, I point out that they must never have seen the state. It’s beautiful.
But, of course, I was headed THROUGH Kansas to Colorado Springs, and I have to admit that while I really enjoyed the eastern hills of your state, the Springs impressed me so much that I moved there! Ended up coming back, but sure do love both your and CopCarSS parts of this country!
And CopCarSS- Thanks for posting those great pics!
No problem. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment!
