You are going to have to yell - I can’t hear you. Seems we declared war on someone and the battle is raging on outside!
I think you’re going to have to type louder…seems that battle has moved from
Nebraska to Kentucky, even the Police helicopter is flying a bit higher than normal
avoiding the “bombs bursting in air”…
Boy, someone is really mad at us! And the illegal flying lanterns are taking their toll on the trees.
Just sprayed the front yard and the bushes for that reasons…Ma nature missed us, but sure made other parts of town damp.
After complaining about how much rain we’ve had the last several days, after tonight, makes me very happy that roofs of house are wet. (at least damp)
Damp? I got your damp…
Between 2 and 3 inches of rain last night in the railyard - a documented 1" fell in 45 minutes. And it came down hard - staying inside a metal box, as I was, was a noisy experience.
Supposedly they cancelled the fireworks, but the booming could be heard a little later. Not sure who watched them - it was still pouring where I was.
Good weekend on the railroad - plenty of riders, and a few folks of note. One worked as a New York Central crew caller years ago, before his 40 year career with Corning.
Another had just retired from the German railways with 40 years as a conductor. Wish I knew German - I think he had some stories to tell.
Time to empty out the truck and do some laundry…
Went to a friends house last night to celebrate the fourth. Tip: Never let military personnel near fireworks. Interesting things happen. Luckily, the only damage was to the local mosquito population…
Lots of large wildfires here in the PNW, with smoke creating a thick haze outside. The land of rain has been anything but this year, and the ground is bone dry. It is also abnormally hot. Strange days.
I notice that Deggesty has a new avatar. What gives?
Mookie, my bride-to-be’s two year old, male cat was hiding under the comforter, shaking when we returned from our Independence Day activities. Hopefully, no kitties in Nebraska were that frightened. [;)]
One of our quiet Chihuahuas is easily spooked by fireworks and it was almost impossible to get him out of the house for any reason on Saturday. Our other dog was rescued from a bad situation (hoarder) before we got her so she wasn’t bothered by them.
No animals hiding here anymore. Only human hiding was me under a sheet because ceiling fan was too cool.
Our sheltie mix would not tolerate fireworks. The Dalmatian, on the other hand, didn’t care (he was deaf). Never really noticed any reaction when we had cats.
Lots of chores - and it’s muggy as all get out outside. Plus I have to do some grocery shopping - there’s nothing in the house for lunch! Guess I’ll eat in town.

Two or three days ago, Katie and I were talking about the immediate quail colony, and we commented that we had not seen any chicks yet–perhaps because none had survived. About noon today, we saw the families–with the chicks well on the way to being grown as they came out of the hedge at the west end of the yard and crossed the street. Then, while I was eating lunch, I saw at least two families in the back yard, eating seeds that had fallen from the feeder that is by Katie’s deck. The squirrels and several other varieties of bird also eat the fallen seeds.
Ns local was uptown when I left work.Chores to do before tomorrow.
