Perfect! And for the younger set, Spike Jones is the one in the white/straw? hat. All I ever saw of him was his picture on the album cover. Never realized there is video of his antics!
By rvos1979 on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 Well, I found out who prints SkyMall Magazine, the same folks that print for Kalmbach. Got 42,000 lbs going to the Philadelphia airport tomorrow, this should be fun… rvos1979 If you get to deliver to the cargo dock at an airline a lot of the airlines(at least the biggies) used to be open 24/7. Many years back had a multi stop delivery to United like that. Customer Service had booked a bunch of appointments based on 9-5. Sked over 4 days. Got it all done in 2. Rgds IGN
Just getting in from an EMS call. Gonna hit the sack again, but hit the 'Net for a few, including a visit to the Netherlands railcam. Three trains (including a meet at the crossing with a passenger train and an autorack train), and two fire trucks (which weren’t running “lights and siren”), not to mention numerous bikes and scooters.
Good morning from San Angelo. Drove up here to take care of some business. Its 71and partly cloudy…rain all around us…bad flooding in Austin. I need toast…
I was able to escape Texas after basic - but did do two stints at “don’t shoot 'em, Chanute 'em,” which is now closed. The mayor of Rantoul was once quoted as saying that closing the base was the best thing that ever happened to the town. Industry moved in after the close, including at least one major trucking company.
The former IC mainline through town has long since been reduced to one track, and the branches east and west are gone now, too, I believe.
Getting ready for our second “cold snap” of the year. Won’t be long before we’ll be looking forward to “warm snaps…”
Wow! We are having our warm snap today. 78 but with humidity above 55%. Next couple of days will be 85-90 and same humidity before it starts cooling back down.
Busy day - fishing this am, drugstore shopping, grocery shopping, bought me some new glasses, which I barely wear, but need them for distance and then Chinese for supper. And home in time for Judge Judy!
I am exhausted and warm! But weekend is now free to do whatever we decide. (Well, ok - never free, but always reasonable!)
Chuck, I remember Spike very well and his band of cohorts. Does anyone recall when his son was born? Shortly after he was born Spike told folks on t. v. that he would be called “Spikes little Tack”. I wonder where he is today. The likes of comedy has changed so much. Stan and Ollie sure could get a laugh real easy. The antics of the Keystone Cops was funny , can you imagine who the genius was who came up with all the ideas for those movies.
Ns had 2 trains waiting when I left work.Csx ran some trains by as I was working in town after Matt got home. The ND&W tracks are looking better.Must be fall though the weeds are turning light brown.Tomorrow is Friday.
Spike Jones, Jr., shows up on TV in January of 1952, so probably he showed up before that. His IMDB page indicates that he has been doing TV producing for the past 14 years or so, mostly award shows and the like.
I remember watching “The Spike Jones” show in the mid-fifties and thought it was pretty funny. During that time the funniest song they did was a horse race bit about a horse named “Beetlebaum.” There is no goofy comedy like that these days that I have seen. Thank goodness for DVDs of Stan and Ollie, Bud and Lou and Harpo, Chico and Groucho.
Dating myself, but I sort of miss those days. If I could go back to them but have all the conveniences of today… In some ways life was easier then. [:D]
Went fishing again today. Lots of bait disappeared, but no fish. End of season smart!
Did have a good time watching all the hangovers wandering around an RV area. Had a great football game yesterday and a record 91+K crowd. Then the leftover entertainment for today. That was amusing.
Also caught about 9-10 trains coming and going. Always something to see there. Got the Sunday papers read and then a short nap. Can’t beat that with a stick![swg]
